{"id":17486,"date":"2015-01-16T11:46:13","date_gmt":"2015-01-16T16:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/?p=17486"},"modified":"2015-01-16T11:46:14","modified_gmt":"2015-01-16T16:46:14","slug":"wapo-infographic-maps-every-goat-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wapo-infographic-maps-every-goat-us\/","title":{"rendered":"WaPo Infographic Maps Every Goat in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week the <cite>Washington Post<\/cite>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wonkblog<\/a> released one of the coolest visual representations of data we&#8217;ve seen in a long time: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2015\/01\/12\/map-literally-every-goat-in-the-united-states\/?Post+generic=%3Ftid%3Dsm_twitter_washingtonpost\" target=\"_blank\">an interactive map<\/a> displaying the distribution of America&#8217;s entire goat population by county. <\/p>\n<p><center><iframe data-preserve-height=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"550\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-srv\/special\/business\/goats\/index.html?template=iframe\" width=\"90%\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While WaPo gets a little shy and throws in the caveat that this &#8220;may not be the World&#8217;s Most Important Map,&#8221; we&#8217;d like to put forth that this is an extremely awesome and actually pretty revealing project.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agcensus.usda.gov\/Publications\/2012\/Full_Report\/Volume_1,_Chapter_1_US\/st99_1_028_031.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">USDA Agricultural Census in 2012<\/a>, 2,621,514 goats are hanging out in the United States; in 2009, France was home to 1.27 million goats, and China an enormous 152 million.<\/li>\n<li>Almost 80% of all US goats are raised for their meat&mdash;only 16% for their milk.<\/li>\n<li>The biggest concentrations of goat farms are in Texas and Arizona (the goat-to-human ratio of Sutton County, TX, is 22:1).<\/li>\n<li>YouTube is currently hosting 3.2 million videos somehow related to goats.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In conclusion, here is one of those videos:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UXXEpvLT5KY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<address>Feature Photo Credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2015\/01\/12\/map-literally-every-goat-in-the-united-states\/?Post+generic=%3Ftid%3Dsm_twitter_washingtonpost\" target=\"_blank\">washingtonpost.com\/wonkblog<\/a><\/address>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>See how your county stacks up in the American Goat Index.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":17490,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"wprm-recipe-roundup-name":"","wprm-recipe-roundup-description":"","cybocfi_hide_featured_image":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"coauthors":[66],"class_list":["post-17486","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cheese-bites"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v24.4 (Yoast SEO v24.4) -
