Their weapon of choice? Cheese.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m talking about the 1,892 competitors in the <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/ohio-cheesemakers-swiss-wheel-wins-national-cheese-contest-29808275\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Championship Cheese Contest<\/a>, of course. The biennial competition was held in Milwaukee, Wisc., this year, from March 17&ndash;19. With 90 different contest classes to compete in, dairy makers of all kinds have an opportunity to walk away with a medal. Yogurt, butter, and cheese are all closely judged and celebrated. I believe this is confirmation that heaven is indeed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NOGEyBeoBGM\" target=\"_blank\">a place on earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The heavyweight champ, weighing in with an impressive 98.896 points out of a possible 100, was Guggisberg Sugarcreek&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.babyswiss.com\/shop\/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=18&amp;cat=Premium+Swiss\" target=\"_blank\">Premium Swiss cheese<\/a> wheel. The Millersburg, Ohio, company was named the U.S. Champion of the entire contest.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19118\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/belgioioso_americangrana.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19118\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/belgioioso_americangrana.jpg\" alt=\"Belgioioso American Grana\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/belgioioso_americangrana.jpg 600w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/belgioioso_americangrana-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Belgioioso American Grana<\/p><\/div>\n<p>BelGioioso, a <strong>culture<\/strong> favorite, also snatched some hard-earned first place prizes. In the soft &amp; semi-soft mixed milk cheeses category, their crumbly sheep&#8217;s milk gorgonzola stole the show. In the aged provolone category, they won with their Sharp Provolone Mandarino, which also won a first place prize in <a href=\"http:\/\/chefmagazineblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/belgioioso-sharp-provolone-and-romano.html\" target=\"_blank\">2011<\/a>. Let it be known for anyone making pasta in the near future that BelGioioso also won first place in the Parmesan category with their <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/American-Grana\" target=\"_blank\">American Grana<\/a>. The company won second and third place in the soft goat&#8217;s milk cheeses category after showcasing a creamy goat cheese and a fresh goat cheese. They also won second place in the surface (mold) ripened soft goat&#8217;s milk cheeses category with a <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Coupole\" target=\"_blank\">Coupole<\/a>. In the soft cheese category, Vermont Creamery&#8217;s Fresh Cheese team took second place with <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Mascarpone-Vermont-Butter--Cheese-Creamery\" target=\"_blank\">mascarpone<\/a>. The biggest win for the company, a first place spot in the flavored soft goat&#8217;s milk cheeses category, was won with their <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Crumbled-Goat-Cheese-Vermont-Creamery\" target=\"_blank\">fresh goat cheese crumbles<\/a>, flavored by apricot and thyme. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Harbison\" target=\"_blank\">Harbison<\/a>, a soft-ripened cheese with vegetal, woodsy, and mustardy notes, took first place in the soft-ripened cheeses category.
