The ad comes courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bringoutthebranston.co.uk\/about-branston\/\" target=\"_blank\">Branston<\/a>, a British pickle company that now manufactures all sorts of condiments, including chutneys. The ad pushes Branston\u2019s newest chutney flavors, Mediterranean Tomato, Caramelized Onion, and Orchard Fruit.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TF_sIJdgYak\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Chutney isn\u2019t such a huge deal in the U.S. We like our pickles, we like our relishes, our onion jams, our marmalades, and our applesauces. But in other countries like Britain and India, the birthplace of chutney, it\u2019s a pretty big deal. In fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/howto\/guide\/native\/rise-and-rise-chutneys-and-jams\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Good Food<\/a> wrote about the \u201crise and rise\u201d of chutneys and jams. Think of chutney as a combination of your favorite toppers&mdash;a condiment, surely, but one that can be appreciated in its own right, almost like a side dish. Chutneys can include fruit, vegetables, and spices. They can also be spicy or sweet. I\u2019m not sure if everyone would agree, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/browbeat\/2012\/03\/07\/apple_chutney_as_easy_to_make_as_applesauce_but_a_million_times_better.html\" target=\"_blank\"><cite>Slate<\/cite>\u2019s L.V. Anderson says<\/a> that \u201cthere\u2019s very little to be said about making chutney; you basically just throw a bunch of ingredients in a pot and cook them until they\u2019ve turned to mush.\u201d Chutneys have a myriad of uses, from dipping sauces to spreads to right-outta-the-jar snacks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/adfreak\/man-makes-insane-cheese-sculpture-honor-his-chutney-branstons-latest-ad-163553\" target=\"_blank\"><cite>Adweek<\/cite> reminds us<\/a> that the cheese tower in Branston\u2019s new ad is reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cdkS0TgEG30?t=42s\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Dreyfus\u2019s mashed potato sculpture<\/a> in Spielberg&#8217;s <cite>Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/cite>. And just when you thought that sculpting cheese is something they only do in made-up commercials, you realize that it\u2019s a real, legitimate thing. Like when this woman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.odditycentral.com\/pics\/tannys-pullin-creates-worlds-largest-cheese-sculpture.html\" target=\"_blank\">sculpted a 300-pound block of cheddar cheese<\/a> into a cheese crown. Or the fact <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toxel.com\/inspiration\/2009\/10\/13\/15-amazing-cheese-sculptures\/\" target=\"_blank\">that this page<\/a> is dedicated to the most \u201camazing cheese sculptures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The epic cheese tower in the Branston commercial is pretty impressive, and not nearly as disturbing as <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2010\/03\/17\/steve-jobs-head-scul.html\" target=\"_blank\">this sculpture of Steve Jobs<\/a>.
