In a line stretching back to outbreaks with <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/listeria-outbreak-prompts-blue-bell-recall\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Bell Creamery<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/listeria-hysteria\">Jeni\u2019s Ice Cream<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/whole-foods-recalls-roquefort-listeria\">a batch of Roquefort<\/a>, two new cases of cheese-related <em>Listeria<\/em> have emerged in recent days, and though no consumers have come down with the bacteria, safety-related recalls have come into effect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcrg.com\/content\/news\/Agribusiness-Report-Iowa-Cheese-Recall-368934661.html\" target=\"_blank\">Maytag Dairy Farms<\/a> in Newton, Iowa, recalled its signature raw milk blue after Iowa\u2019s Department of Agriculture detected possible <em>Listeria<\/em> contamination during routine testing. The cheese&mdash;one lot recalled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodsafetynews.com\/2016\/02\/listeria-test-causes-blue-cheese-recall\/#.VsYw3vkrKM8\" target=\"_blank\">on February 13<\/a> and five recalled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodsafetynews.com\/2016\/02\/123832\/#.VstJIZMrKV5\" target=\"_blank\">on February 19<\/a>&mdash;was packaged in 4- and 8-oz. wedges, 2- and 4-lb. wheels, and 5-lb. crumbles. The compromised curd made its way into several Des Moines area restaurants and distributors\u2014as well as Maytag&#8217;s farm store\u2014before the recall was announced. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Safety\/Recalls\/ucm487040.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> for a full list of affected products. There have been no reported cases of <em>Listeria<\/em> so far.<\/p>\n<p>Cheese importer Mitica <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodsafetynews.com\/2016\/02\/123702\/#.VsYa-_krKM8\" target=\"_blank\">recalled<\/a> wheels of cheese from Italy after testing found it also possibly contaminated with <em>Listeria<\/em>. The raw sheep&#8217;s milk Pecorino Foglie di Noci, Lot X2537, was shipped to nine states. Whole Foods separately recalled the cheese from two retail locations in New York and Florida.<\/p>\n<p>A <em>Listeria<\/em> infection can have mild to severe effects. Pregnant women, children, and older adults are particularly susceptible. Symptoms are similar to the common flu.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve worriedly noted that both of the cheeses are made from raw milk, be aware that both are compliant with current FDA aging regulations of over 60 days. Proper sanitation is more about the method and environment in which the cheese is produced, rather than the fact of its raw milk, which is why the FDA is taking another look at how it <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/fda-responds-to-raw-milk\" target=\"_blank\">tests and evaluates raw milk cheeses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>This article
