And being a cheese magazine, it&#8217;s pretty much impossible for us <em>not<\/em> to equate a special wedge or wheel for each of the eight nominees for Best Picture. Check out our selections below, and cast your vote for Best Cheese!<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>The Big Short = Queso Dip<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BigShort.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BigShort.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_BigShort\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BigShort.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BigShort-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just as the protagonists of <cite>The Big Short<\/cite> made off with millions on their prediction of the collapse of the financial market yet nevertheless felt kinda bad for profiting off the misfortune of others, so too does a jar of supermarket queso make us feel oh-so amazing as we shovel it in our mouth but then induces queasiness at the thought that we just did that to our bodies. (Since we&#8217;re watching the Oscars, though, we recommend going for not-so-gut-busting from-scratch version: <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/recipes\/mexican-cheese-dip-chicken\" target=\"_blank\">Queso Fundido con Pollo<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>Bridge of Spies = Emmentaler<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BridgeofSpies.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BridgeofSpies.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_BridgeofSpies\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25821\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BridgeofSpies.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_BridgeofSpies-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are people watching in every dark corner in <cite>Bridge of Spies<\/cite>, so it only made sense for us to choose a cheese with a whole lot of &#8220;eyes&#8221; to spy on us with as we furtively take a nibble or two. We want to take it easy and avoid the  pro- and anti-Commie fervor depicted in the film, though, so we&#8217;re going to play it safe with the solid <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Emmentaler\" target=\"_blank\">Emmentaler<\/a> from neutral Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>Brooklyn = Cahill Irish Porter Cheese<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Brooklyn.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Brooklyn.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_Brooklyn\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25822\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Brooklyn.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Brooklyn-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A tale of love from Ireland to America deserves a cheese of quality from Ireland to America, and in our minds there are few better winners than <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Cahills-Irish-Porter-Cheese\" target=\"_blank\">Cahill&#8217;s Irish Porter Cheese<\/a>. We recommend not agonizing over monumental life decisions and instead munch on this porter-infused beauty.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>Mad Max: Fury Road = Marin French Brie<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_MadMax.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_MadMax.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_MadMax\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_MadMax.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_MadMax-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We know what you&#8217;re thinking&mdash;a wheel of <em>brie<\/em> for this, the most hardcore and action-packed of films? Hear us out: Much of the driving force of the film was the attempt to escape <em>from<\/em> those harsh elements to a place of peace. And <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Brie-Marin-French-Cheese\" target=\"_blank\">Marin French Brie<\/a> is definitely pretty peaceful. (And also, doesn&#8217;t the bloomy rind remind you of Immortan Joe&#8217;s pancake makeup?)<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>The Martian = Sartori Pastorale Blend<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscar2016_TheMartian.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscar2016_TheMartian.jpg\" alt=\"Oscar2016_TheMartian\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscar2016_TheMartian.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscar2016_TheMartian-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As much of the action of <cite>The Martian<\/cite> takes place amongst the desolate canyons and windswept plains of Mars, we knew we had to seek out a cheese to match that trademark red Martian soil. Luckily for us, Sartori&#8217;s mixed sheep&#8217;s and cow&#8217;s milk <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Pastorale-Blend\" target=\"_blank\">Pastorale Blend<\/a> is topped off with an out-of-this-world (<em>get it?<\/em>) dusting of smoked Spanish paprika.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>The Revenant = Blu di Bufala<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_TheRevenant.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_TheRevenant.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_TheRevenant\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_TheRevenant.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_TheRevenant-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are quite a few memorable scenes in this epic, but one that stood out to us was the moment a starving Hugh Glass came across a slaughtered buffalo and took a huge bite out of its liver (or heart? <em>definitely<\/em> an internal organ of some kind). Since that&#8217;s something we don&#8217;t really want to try ourselves, we decided the next best thing is a cheese from buffalo&#8217;s <em>milk<\/em>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Blu-di-Bufala\" target=\"_blank\">Blu di Bufala<\/a> was the wedge that won out.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>Room = Beemster Graskaas<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Osacars2016_Room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Osacars2016_Room.jpg\" alt=\"Osacars2016_Room\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Osacars2016_Room.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Osacars2016_Room-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one was also a toughie, but a ray of inspiration struck us at the very last second like a fleeting glimpse of the heavens through a solitary skylight. Beemster&#8217;s Graskaas is made from the very first milking of spring, as soon as cows who had been cooped up all winter long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rDvnUiO-LAk\" target=\"_blank\">joyously frolic<\/a> in pristine Dutch pastures, which we thought was a pretty good parallel with the new world our young protagonist experiences for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<h2>Spotlight = Uplands Cheese Company Rush Creek Reserve<\/h2>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Spotlight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Spotlight.jpg\" alt=\"Oscars2016_Spotlight\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Spotlight.jpg 750w, https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Oscars2016_Spotlight-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re journalists here at <strong>culture<\/strong>, albeit of the cheesy variety, so the whole team absolutely loved this story of fighting the good fight against adverse forces to reveal the Truth. <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Rush-Creek-Reserve\" target=\"_blank\">Rush Creek Reserve<\/a> might not have the same journalistic principles, but it is <em>revelatory<\/em>&mdash;and they did <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/rush-creek-returns\" target=\"_blank\">take a stand<\/a> against some perhaps out-of-touch FDA regulations on raw milk to produce this extraordinary cheese once more after it fell out of production for a spell.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Don&#8217;t go empty-handed to your Oscars-watching party\u2014bring a cheese for each Best Picture nominee!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":18270,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"wprm-recipe-roundup-name":"","wprm-recipe-roundup-description":"","cybocfi_hide_featured_image":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"coauthors":[66],"class_list":["post-25813","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cheese-bites"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v24.4 (Yoast SEO v24.4) -
