This year, one of our personal favorite cheeseheads, Andy Hatch of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uplandscheese.com\/\">Uplands Cheese Company<\/a>,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was named one of Martha Stewart\u2019s 2016 American Makers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martha Stewart\u2019s American Made honors the American entrepreneurial spirit by celebrating small business owners. Uplands Cheese is in&nbsp;good company with other 2016 winners such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/girlswhocode.com\/about-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Girls Who Code<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a non-profit dedicated to closing the tech industry\u2019s gender gap, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/stonycreekcolors.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stony Creek Colors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a company creating natural alternatives to synthetic colors used for textiles. \u201cI\u2019d like to thank Martha Stewart and the editors of Martha Stewart Living for not only valuing the quality of our cheese, but also for recognizing that our success can serve as an example to other family farms looking to add value to their milk,\u201d said Hatch at last month\u2019s awards ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uplands is most famous for its Alpine-style&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Pleasant-Ridge-Reserve\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pleasant Ridge Reserve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the single most decorated cheese in America <em>and<\/em> the only cheese to have won top awards at both the American Cheese Society Judging and&nbsp;Competition and the United States&nbsp;Championship Cheese Contest. The company also crafts&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Rush-Creek-Reserve\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rush Creek Reserve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a gooey, <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/article\/bark-wrapped-cheeses\">bark-wrapped<\/a>&nbsp;wheel that Uplands <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/rush-creek-reserve-production-cancelled-2014\">famously stopped producing<\/a> from 2014 to 2015 due to the FDA&#8217;s conflicting opinions on aging cheese on wooden boards.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thankfully, the FDA backed down from their arguably anti-artisan stance and Rush Creek Reserve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-bites\/rush-creek-returns\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">came back<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to us in 2015.
