{"id":29725,"date":"2017-03-10T12:30:17","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T17:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/?p=29725"},"modified":"2019-07-30T13:21:50","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T17:21:50","slug":"sartori-takes-top-honors-2017-us-championship-cheese-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/sartori-takes-top-honors-2017-us-championship-cheese-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Sartori Takes Top Honors at 2017 US Championship Cheese Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Meet America&#8217;s best cheese: <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/Black-Pepper-BellaVitano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sartori Reserve Black Pepper BellaVitano<\/a>,&nbsp;crafted by Master Cheesemaker Mike Matucheski.<\/p>\n<p>The flavored hard cheese was crowned &#8220;Grand Champion&#8221; of the 2017 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uschampioncheese.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">US Championship Cheese Contest<\/a> last night, receiving a score of 99.018 out of 100.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo win the title of Grand Champion, when we know perfectly well how many talented cheeses were in the competition, makes me proud of all of our incredibly hard-working Team Members,&#8221; said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sartoricheese.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sartori<\/a> CEO Jim Sartori in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The contest&#8217;s host state, Wisconsin, had an impressive showing, with its cheesemakers sweeping the top three honors. An aged cheddar by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agropurcheese.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Agropur<\/a>&nbsp;Master Cheesemaker Terry Lensmire was named first runner-up (score of 98.813), while the Marieke Gouda Belegen by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariekegouda.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marieke Gouda<\/a>&nbsp;Team finished as second runner-up (score of 98.593). Fourteen of&nbsp;the 20 &#8220;Grand Champion&#8221; finalists&nbsp;hailed&nbsp;from the Badger State.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is Sartori&#8217;s second win in the competition&#8217;s 36-year history. The Plymouth, Wis.-based producer last won in 2009 with cheesemaker John Griffiths and his <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/cheese-library\/SarVecchio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SarVecchio Parmesan<\/a>. Founded in 1939, Sartori is a fourth-generation family-owned business known for its hard and Italian-style cheeses.<\/p>\n<p>The United States Championship Cheese Contest is hosted biennially and is considered the largest technical contest for cheese, butter, and yogurt in the country.
