W<\/span>hen Cypress Grove founder Mary Keehn was developing the company\u2019s first and only sheep\u2019s milk cheese, she planned to name it \u201cLamborghini.\u201d The car manufacturer\u2019s legal team ultimately pulled the plug on that idea\u2014but the concept of a lamb on wheels persisted. \u201cSo we ended up with Lamb Chopper riding his Harley through the redwoods and poppies,\u201d Keehn explains.<\/p>\n

Painter and native Californian Nancy Norman created the whimsical image to reflect the cheese\u2019s tagline, \u201cborn to be mild.\u201d Aged from three to six months, Lamb Chopper<\/a> is buttery, sweet, and approachable, but not lacking in complexity, making it an ideal introduction to sheep\u2019s milk cheese.<\/h3>\n

The wheel is one of the creamery\u2019s best sellers, and Keehn believes the label has contributed to its success. \u201cNames and logos are really important to people,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I first started, every goat cheese had a French name…they were difficult to pronounce and relate to. People are celebrating when they buy a nice cheese, so we want it to be fun and casual, not stuffy.\u201d The biker lamb speaks to Cypress Grove\u2019s overarching philosophy: \u201cWe are really serious about the quality of our cheese,\u201d Keehn says, \u201cbut we\u2019re equally serious about having a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
