Over 4,000 cheeses from 42 countries entered the competition.&nbsp;<strong>Culture<\/strong>&nbsp;editor, Susan Axelrod, was one of the 250 judges responsible for culling the pack of worldly cheeses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kroger and Albertsons<\/strong> Companies&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbev.com\/news\/kroger-and-albertsons-companies-announce-24-6bn-merger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently announced<\/a>&nbsp;a $24.6 billion merger, which will enable&nbsp;the combined entities to establish a national footprint.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following a 30-year legal battle, French dairy company Lactalis has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/culture\/2022\/10\/26\/cheese-wars-president-wins-battle-for-the-camembert-name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">won the right<\/a> to use the name <strong>Camembert de Normandie<\/strong>\u2014for now. Their Pr\u00e9sident brand of camembert is made in Normandy, but the cow&#8217;s milk used for the cheese is not necessarily from the region. Lactalis won a suspension of a 2021 ruling that banned use of the label for any camembert not made with Normandy milk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sargento&#8217;s<\/strong>&nbsp;Balanced Breaks Cheese &amp; Crackers has earned one of the highest honors in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry\u2014the&nbsp;<a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/nielseniq.com\/global\/en\/news-center\/2022\/nielseniq-bases-announces-2022-breakthrough-innovation-award-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nielsen BASES&nbsp;Breakthrough Innovation award<\/a><span style=\"color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.belgioioso.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BelGioioso Cheese<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;has received Kosher certification by OU, the world\u2019s largest and most widely recognized Kosher Certification agency, at its Appleton and Denmark plants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classaction.org\/news\/lucerne-gouda-cheese-mislabeled-as-smoked-class-action-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A class-action lawsuit<\/a>&nbsp;claims Albertsons\u2019 Lucerne-brand Smoked Pasteurized Processed Gouda Cheese Product is mislabeled as &#8220;smoked&#8221;&nbsp;although&nbsp;the taste&nbsp;comes from smoke flavoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kraft<\/strong> is now getting into the plant-based cheese market with their newest product, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fooddive.com\/news\/kraft-heinz-plant-based-cheese-notco\/634983\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Not Cheese<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does it really matter that <strong>American cheese<\/strong> isn&#8217;t &#8220;real&#8221; cheese, as long as it melts well?&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/appetizers\/antipasto\/cheese\/dont-be-a-snob-about-american-cheese\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to one food writer<\/a>, there are some recipes that are simply better with the pasteurized-processed-cheese-food, and it&#8217;s time turophiles got on board. We at&nbsp;<strong>culture<\/strong>&nbsp;tend to agree that quesos are creamier and macs are cheesier with the addition of a little American cheese.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing for<em>&nbsp;Forbes,&nbsp;<\/em>Rana Good <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ranagood\/2022\/10\/28\/a-guide-to-spain-and-spanish-cheese-from-it-girl-cheesemaker-clara-diez\/?sh=655460356c85\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interviews<\/a> <strong>Clara Diez<\/strong>, &#8220;cheese activist, content creator, and founder of Formaje,&#8221; a bespoke cheese shop in Madrid, Spain.
