When Mary Keehn launched Cypress Grove<\/a> in Humboldt County, California, in 1983, she was a single mom with four daughters. “Every morning I\u2019d milk about 50 goats by hand, get the girls off to school, then go make cheese,” Keehn told culture<\/strong> in this story<\/a> from 2011. Her signature cheese, Humboldt Fog, appeared to her in a dream on a plane ride home from a trip to France to visit cheesemakers. “I saw it clearly in my dream\u2014everything about it and exactly how to make it,” Keehn said. “And so I just went home and made it. But nobody bought it. It didn\u2019t catch on until years later when Florence Fabricant at the New York Times<\/em> wrote about it.
