Cheese consumption hit an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dairyherd.com\/news\/education\/americas-love-affair-dairy-continues-cheese-consumption-hits-all-time-high-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all-time high in 2022<\/a> and shows no signs of slowing down as we collectively lean into comfort during uncertain times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve scoured the internet and consulted the experts to come up with our 2024 cheese trend predictions. From nostalgic pairings and bold and swicy flavors, to cheese travels and inventive pasta,  2024 is shaping up to be an exceptionally cheesy year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nostalgia\">Nostalgia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gwi.com\/trends\/nostalgia-trend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nostalgia<\/a> is back, and it&#8217;s not limited to low-rise jeans and baby tees. Cheese has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/groceries-cheese-retro-trend-23606607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">entered its retro era<\/a> and we are here for it. We&#8217;ve been seeing a rise in 70s-inspired fondue and raclette motifs, <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/dairy-farmers-of-wisconsin-unveils-2024-cheese-trends-to-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spam and cheese pairings<\/a>, and even the <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/cheesemongers-compete-to-represent-the-us-at-international-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">return of aspic<\/a> at this year&#8217;s Cheesemonger Invitational. With all the uncertainty and turbulence over the last several years, it&#8217;s no wonder brands and creators are turning to nostalgia to evoke <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/dairy-farmers-of-wisconsin-unveils-2024-cheese-trends-to-watch\/\">comfort and familiarity<\/a>. Expect to see cheese applications that are cozy and casual, instead of sparse and complex. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bolder-flavors\">Bolder Flavors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Love it or hate it, flavored cheese is here to stay. Kaitie Hackett, category manager at Emmi Roth, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dairyprocessing.com\/articles\/1868-flavors-forms-eating-occasions-fueling-cheeses-growth#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIn%20recent%20years%2C%20we',flavors%20in%20the%20cheese%20category.\">Dairy Processing<\/a> that unique flavors have helped generate excitement and drive growth for the category. In 2024 there will be continued flavor innovation\u2014beyond blueberry goat logs and truffle gouda. Expect to see global flavors and lots of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonappetit.com\/story\/what-is-swicy-food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spicy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wholefoodsmarket.com\/trends\/the-next-big-things-our-top-10-food-trends-for-2024\">complex heat<\/a>. We&#8217;re also expecting to see even more culture crossover, like <a href=\"https:\/\/forevercheese.com\/2023\/11\/13\/two-favorite-pairings-kimchi-and-cheese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kimchee and cheese pairings<\/a> and Indian food featuring Parmigiano Reggiano, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes-menus\/triumph-of-third-culture-cooking-hetty-mckinnon-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third culture<\/a> cuisine grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-environmental-sustainability\">Environmental Sustainability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As we collectively experience <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/174710\/stop-calling-climate-anxiety-its-climate-dread\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">climate dread<\/a>, the pressure to purchase environmentally conscious products has never been greater. Consumers are seeking out information on packaging and third-party certifications to weigh the environmental impacts of food products. Cheesemakers will continue to practice and tout their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.noble.org\/regenerative-agriculture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regenerative farming<\/a> practices, <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/can-cheese-packaging-be-more-sustainable-european-lawmakers-think-so\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eco-conscious packaging<\/a>, and alternative energy sources\u2014like the <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/dairy-farmers-of-wisconsin-unveils-2024-cheese-trends-to-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anaerobic digester<\/a> at Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pasta\">Pasta<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next year we&#8217;re going to see pasta everywhere, but not just staples like bolognese and cacio e pepe. Expect to see new pasta shapes\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/news.italianfood.net\/2023\/12\/14\/datassential-predicts-the-food-trend-of-2024-will-be-european-2-0\/\">Datassential<\/a> predicts Cresto di Gallo will be the &#8220;it&#8221; pasta shape of 2024\u2014and a resurgence of forgotten classics like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grubstreet.com\/2023\/08\/cafe-chelsea-ravioles-du-dauphine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ravioles du Dauphin\u00e9<\/a> from Caf\u00e9 Chelsea that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/ravioles-du-dauphine-7852394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">took the internet by storm<\/a> earlier this year. While pasta is not <em>technically<\/em> a cheese trend, we included it because if you give a mouse some pasta, he&#8217;ll probably ask for some cheese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cheese-travel\">Cheese Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As post-pandemic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/life\/travel\/pandemic-revenge-travel-is-still-on-the-forecast-for-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revenge travel<\/a> rages on, travelers are seeking out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/the-biggest-food-travel-trends-2024-8410884#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chef-lead trips<\/a> and immersive culinary experiences. In 2023 Anna Juhl&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheesejourneys.com\/\">Cheese Journeys<\/a> celebrated its tenth year, meanwhile, we saw several new cheese travel concepts take flight. Marissa Mullen launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatcheeseplate.com\/thatcheeseplatetravels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">That Cheese Plate travels<\/a>, Carlos Yescas&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheesespelunker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cheese Spelunker<\/a> embarked on its second round of tours, and Rachel Frier launched <a href=\"https:\/\/thecheeseclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Cheese Club<\/a>, a global travel platform for cheese lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-renewed-focus-on-artisan-product-lines\">Renewed Focus on Artisan Product Lines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to cheesemakers, we&#8217;ve read the veins in the blue (shout out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saveur.com\/culture\/tyromancy-cheese-divination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tyromancy<\/a>) and are predicting a renewed focus on legacy and artisan product lines. For a while, it seemed like the goal of artisan cheesemaking was to grow as big as possible, develop name recognition, and then dedicate resources to commodity and specialty product lines. In 2024, we&#8217;re predicting a return to legacy product lines as consumers spend more on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-11-03\/treat-yourself-starbucks-sbux-fried-chicken-spending-splurge-boosts-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">little luxuries<\/a> and makers lean into their niches. Curt Alpeter, newly appointed CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.graftonvillagecheese.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grafton Village Cheese<\/a>, said the Vermont cheesemaker is planning to grow its line of cave aged cheeses, including Storyteller, Sheepsog, and Bear Hill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-print-is-back\">Print is Back!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We may be a bit biased on this one, but we&#8217;re predicting 2024 will bring a renewed interest in print media! In <a href=\"https:\/\/printinthebag.co.uk\/blog\/why-print-media-is-making-comeback-with-gen-z\">response to the constant barrage<\/a> of information online, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business.com\/articles\/nicholas-brown-generation-z-and-the-future-of-print-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen Z<\/a> is increasingly turning to print as a curated and trustworthy information source. With legacy publications like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saveur.com\/culture\/print-is-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saveur<\/a> returning to print and <strong>culture&#8217;s<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/developer83.wordpress-developer.us\/culturecheesemag\/blog\/culture-announces-new-executive-content-director\/\">refresh<\/a>, we&#8217;re feeling pretty confident about the future of print media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cheese travel &#038; swicy &#038; pasta, oh my!
