Where To Go During This Year’s American Cheese Society Annual Conference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In a few short weeks, over 1,000 cheese professionals will descend on Buffalo, New York for the American Cheese Society annual conference<\/a>. The conference, affectionately known as “cheese camp,” draws cheesemakers, cheesemongers, distributors, importers, writers, and enthusiasts for three days of educational sessions and networking.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we started to plan our routes and save places to our Google Maps list, we figured it would be a good idea to reach out to an in-the-know local to get an inside scoop on the Buffalo cheese scene. Rachel Waschitz Banks, a founding member of the NY State Cheese Council<\/a> and the Meeting of the Milkmaids<\/a> organizations, was kind enough to pull together a list of the cheesiest spots in and around Buffalo.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From cheese shops and dairy farms to burger joints and ice cream spots, be sure to check out these spots when you’re in town!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheese is alive in Buffalo! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buffalo has historically played an important role in the American cheese industry. Located in a dairy state\u2014New York is currently the fifth largest dairy-producing state in the US\u2014and on Lake Erie and the Erie Canal, Buffalo was a key player in shipping cheese to other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buffalo is home to unique regional cuisines, like spaghetti parm, sponge candy, and of course, Buffalo wings, and a burgeoning cheese scene. Today many new artisanal cheese businesses are emerging across Western New York, from makers, mongers, charcuterie, and distribution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New York State Cheese Council has created a map of cheese businesses<\/a> across the state. We hope this will serve as a tool you can use to plan your trips to and from the conference, so you can take in all that our amazing state has to offer!
