Explore the Vermont Cheese Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re a restless gourmand who believes any eating experience is improved by a hearty dose of wanderlust fulfilled, you&#8217;ll want to add <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vtcheese.com\/cheesetrail.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Vermont&#8217;s Cheese Trail<\/a> to your itinerary of vineyard tours and pub crawls. Home to 46 <a href=\"\/blog\/american-cheese-consider-bardwell-farm\" target=\"_blank\">cheesemakers<\/a> producing 150 varieties of artisan cheeses, Vermont has a lot of curd to offer any hungry guest. While you can&#8217;t visit all of the cheesemakers listed on the trail on a whim (31 are by special tour or appointment only), you&#8217;d be hard pressed to fit the remaining 12 into a single day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Diane Bair and Pamela Wright of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/2014\/05\/31\/walk-this-whey-vermont-cheese-trail-has-much-see\/aUisiz0toLgrPmZiX5zerI\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Globe<\/a> said of their recent visit to five cheesemakers on the trail in south-central Vermont:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The best thing about this tour: We not only sampled a variety of fabulous cheeses and learned about the cheesemaking process, but we met passionate and creative artisans, stayed at two lovely inns, and took in some of Vermont\u2019s beautiful farmland-to-mountains scenery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Talk about an idyllic New England vacation. And if you do fancy a day trip to only a portion of the cheesemakers, the Vermont Cheese Trail is the perfect excuse for a <a href=\"http:\/\/travel.nationalgeographic.com\/travel\/road-trips\/vermont-cheese-trail-road-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\">road trip<\/a>; it follows Route 100 north (accessible from main highway I-89), and loops back down the state on Route 7. Summer and fall both boast beautiful weather in Vermont, too, so don&#8217;t delay!
